Frequently Asked Questions
Homeowner: I purchased my house and didn't know it had a cesspool. What should I do now?
If your property has a cesspool, APTA will develop a plan for your property’s cesspool conversion. Our process includes site evaluation, proposal of environmentally-responsible wastewater treatment system, engineering drawings, and handling the permitting process for the Hawai‘i Department of Health (DOH) IWS Permit.
Construction Manager: Does my construction project require an Erosion and Sediment Control Plan (ESCP)?
Projects that involve grading, excavation, or other land-disturbing activities typically require an Erosion and Sediment Control Plan (ESCP). The specific requirements vary based on the size of the project and its proximity to waterways or coastal areas. APTA will evaluate your construction site conditions, and will serve as your Erosion and Sediment Control Plan (ESCP) Coordinator.
Tourism and Commercial Sector: What types of reports are required after receiving an Underground Injection Control (UIC) Well Permit?
Conditions of the Underground Injection Control (UIC) Well Permit require facilities to regularly inspect the wells and evaluate their performance to prevent injection well failures. APTA will evaluate the status and performance of your wells, and prepare your facility’s UIC Injection Well Status Report.
Federal Remediation: My remediation contract has a new requirement for PFAS sampling. What is PFAS?
Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are synthetic chemicals used in many industries to make products waterproof, non-stick, and stain-resistant. They do not break down easily and accumulate over time, potentially leading to adverse health effects, including weakened immune response and increased risk of certain cancers. Additionally, PFAS often occur in very low concentrations, requiring advanced and precise sampling techniques. Count on APTA to ensure reliable analytical results.
